#78 Women of the Bible: Queen of heaven

The Jews in the time of Josiah were worshipping Baal, the sun, the moon and all the constellations of the zodiac (2 Kings 23:5). In the times of Jeremiah they worshipped the Queen of heaven and believed that this resulted in plenty of food, their being well off and having no trouble (Jer. 44:17). At that time and as a result of their refusal to worship the one true God, God allowed the nation of Egypt to come and desolate them. Worshipping demons (eg 2 Chron. 11:15) has a high price tag.

If you think that is irrelevant to us today and that no one worships a demonic power, think again. When the ancient Celts converted to Christianity, they retained some pagan, Druidic beliefs about “thin places”, which referred to specific sites where a person could get close to the spirit realm. As Christians, they believed these sacred sites gave them access to the Holy Spirit. Today I hear of Christians revering certain places as holy or spiritual and then later wonder why there has been a lot of "bad luck" in their lives.

Other ancient practices associated with demon worship remain with us today in the form of angel spirit guides, crystals, tarot cards, reiki, fortune telling, horoscopes, yoga, Halloween…. With every single practice that is linked to the worship of demons, there is an ultimate price tag in your physical or mental health, wealth or relationships.

There may be an initial flush of apparent blessings when a person uses these practices, but in the long term there will be a cost. We have been warned that “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14). In another place we have been cautioned, “Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack” (I Pet. 5:8).

Only the power in the name of Jesus can overwhelm this demonic realm and its influence. If you have been caught up messing with Satan’s toybox, then you will need to rid yourself of every item in your life: statues of foreign gods, ornaments, crystals, books, tarot cards etc and turn to Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. He alone can deliver you from evil oppression if you renounce all association with this evil realm. It is never too late to align yourself with Jesus.

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty [emancipation from bondage, true freedom]" (2 Cor. 3:17 Amp).
