All things work together for good

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (Rom. 8:28 NLT).

Not all things that happen to us in our lives are good but the Spirit (v27) enables us to know and understand that for those who love God, each and every circumstance that we might experience will work out for “good”. If we were to conduct a straw poll and ask Christians about the tough times they have been through, we would expect every one of them to say that God brought good out of those tough times. Every problem has a use-by date.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that things will turn around in this life and we will be happy, healthy and wealthy, but it does mean that God plans to glorify us in eternity. That’s exactly what the next verse says:

“For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters” (v29 NLT). God didn’t just know that you were going to exist, He knew that He was going to have a personal, saving relationship with you- a relationship that will last into eternity.

God chose you to be like Jesus. You are a child of God. “And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory” (v30 NLT).

And the conclusion of the whole wonderful matter is, “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”(v31 NLT). God gave His only Son and that means there is nothing that HE won’t freely give us. There is no condemnation to you when you belong to Jesus. The blood of Jesus can wash away ALL your sins, as far as the east is from the west.

The Enemy accuses but Jesus defends. He is our advocate, our defence attorney. So be confident that all things will work for good when you are in a relationship with Him.
