Have you prayed for someone to be healed?

There are gifts from the Holy Spirit such as gifts of healing, discernment, wisdom, miracles, prophecy, tongues and interpretation of tongues and these are wonderful when you see people using these gifts. I particularly want to focus on the gift of healing today.

Only last week I witnessed a man use the gift of healing to pray for numerous people to be instantaneously healed of accident damage and chronic health conditions. Such gifts all advance the kingdom of God because they benefit others and not us (I Cor. 12:7) and confirm that what we are saying about Jesus is true and reliable. In that way the gift witnesses to the world God’s love and power.

Jesus has commanded His disciples to be baptised in the Holy Spirit:

"I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again”'(John 3:5-7 NIV).

Just ask God in faith to fill you with the Holy Spirit. (Even if you don’t have the gift of healing you can try using the gift of obedience – Jesus asked ALL His followers to heal the sick saying,

“And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give” (Matt. 10:7-8 KJV)).

Next you will need to “fan into flame the gift of God which is in you” (2 Tim. 1:6-7 NIV). That means to go out and use it. Keep practising and using the gift as He intended us to do until the gift is fully activated. Look for opportunities to pray for others who are sick or in need.

I’ve found that it’s easier to see healing amongst people who don’t believe than it is for believers, but don’t be attached to the outcome, just keep praying for people and sharing God’s love. When people are healed remind them that Jesus invites them into a relationship with Him.

It’s risky to pray for people. The first time I wanted to pray for someone I spent hours in prayer asking God to give me the confidence to pray, to make them receptive to prayer and to answer my prayer! And what happened? I prayed for someone bedridden in hospital and facing a very long stay and they were discharged within the hour!

Who can you pray for?

When was the last time that you stepped out and prayed for someone to be healed?
