“He will judge Your people with righteousness, and Your poor with justice. The mountains will bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, and will break in pieces the oppressor” (Psa. 72:2-4 NKJV)
We have a loving God who only wants the best for all those who love Him. This will be a kingdom where there will be no discord in families or nations. Imagine a world like this. Instead of famine and poverty, justice. Instead of war and fear, peace. Instead of injustice and unfairness, righteousness. Instead of fatherless and hungry children, safety and provision.
We don’t have anything like this anywhere across our world today but this is a time that is coming. It is a time that all those who can declare that “Salvation is of the LORD” (Jon. 2:9) can look forward to. A time when we all who fear God receive undeserved mercy from “the God of heaven who made the sea and the dry land” (Jon. 1:9).
The people of Nineveh couldn’t “discern between their right hand and their left hand” (Jon. 4:11). This means that even though the Ninevites were not morally pure, they had no idea how to change their behaviour before God. They needed the prophet, Jonah, to help them understand their position and know how they should behave.
When Jonah went and spoke to the people of Nineveh and implored them to stop being so godless, God showed them immense love and kindness. Jonah admitted that God was “merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness. One who relents from doing harm” (Jon. 4:2).
Unlike the people of Nineveh, we have the Bible to guide us and show us how we should behave. If we stop ignoring God’s influence in our lives and turn to Him, He will shower us with blessings in this life AND in the age to come. Never underestimate God’s mercy and His willingness to forgive – no matter what you have done in your life, it is never too late to come to the Father and ask to belong to Him. A future world of peace and justice is waiting for you.
