Perhaps today

“The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. (1 Pet. 4:7-11 NLT).

My friend’s godmother taught him a prayer to say each day: “Perhaps today”. We know His return is soon and it may be today so she kept these words in her mind to remind her to be prepared.

How would you live life differently if you truly believed Jesus would return today? Peter gave us the answer to that question in the opening text.

Firstly, we would be earnest and disciplined in our prayers.

Secondly, we would be caring of others.

Thirdly, we would be hospitable to others.

Fourthly, we would be zealous in working for God.

Fifthly, we would be speaking boldly in His name.

Lastly, we would do everything to bring God glory.

“Perhaps today.” We need to be reminded that Jesus’ return is very near and it may indeed be today that Jesus will come. We need to live every day in the light of Jesus’ return.

“Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again” (I Thess. 5:23 NLT).
