The key to getting peace in your circumstances

I know someone who has been tormented night after night with thoughts of fear, worry, anxiety, and panic as she wonders about her financial future and her health. Sure, there are possibilities that her life may go awry but at this stage, it hasn’t. The fear is just a lie in this person’s head.

What is fear? I’ve heard it described as “False Evidence Appearing Real” but there is something more sinister at foot here than simply your own worries and anxieties about something that hasn’t happened.

Jesus gave us the key to understanding where these tormenting lies come from when He said, “There is no truth in him (Satan). When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies“(John 8:44 NIV). What’s more, Jesus gave us the template for dealing with Satan’s lies that every single one of us is hearing.

In His temptation in the wilderness, every time Satan tried to seduce Jesus with a lie or half-truth, Jesus responded with, “It is written…”

That means that if you are hearing that you are fat and ugly, tell Satan that “It is written: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”.”

If you are hearing that can’t provide for your family and you are facing financial ruin, tell Satan that “It is written: “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these”.” (Matt. 6:27-29 NIV)

If you are hearing that you are sick and you will die, tell Satan that “It is written: God forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases”.” (Psalm 103:3 NIV)

If you are hearing that your sins are too great and you can’t be forgiven, tell Satan that “It is written: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”.”(1 John 1:9 NIV)

Whatever the lie that is being said to you, there will be a Bible verse to counteract it. This is a fantastic reason to read your Bible and become completely familiar with what it says and to memorise useful verses to overthrow the lies of Satan.
