Back in 2000 when I first stepped into a church, I was staggered at how animated and happy everybody was. People came up to me and introduced themselves and expressed delight that I had come to church and asked me if I was saved or not – a concept I really didn’t have a clue about. In time I came to understand what they meant and why they were so cheerful. The joy that Christians exude all hinges around verses like this:
“I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist. Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free” (Isa. 44:21-22 NLT).
How good is it to know that God has brushed away our sins and offenses like they were just clouds and morning mists! The breath of God dismisses those oppressive clouds of sin, shame and guilt never to be seen again. The chains that held you to harmful and destructive habits and thoughts have gone. You have been set free!
God alone paid the price for us to be redeemed. We couldn’t save ourselves so He came to earth, as Immanuel, and lived amongst us. He paid the dreadful penalty for our sins and in exchange we took on His righteousness. Our sins of the past, of the present and of the future, have gone when we turn to Jesus as our Saviour. “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west” (Psa. 103:12).
Because God no longer remembers our sins we can live happy lives, free of guilt and condemnation. “We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them” (Psa. 126:2).
Feel refreshed and revived today in the freedom you have in Christ Jesus. The Father has started the process of you becoming more like Him each day and that is a very good reason to shout ‘Praise the Lord’. You are His child and He loves you dearly.
Be blessed!
