The Bible is so full of good news that the word “gospel” actually means “good news”. Throughout the Bible we are given the bad news and then will follow the antithesis: the good news. God has given us a choice – we can either live in the bad news or live in the good news. R.C. Sproule writes that “The Gospel is only good news when we understand the bad news.”
So what are some snippets of good news that we can find in the Bible? Here is a quick selection.
The bad news is that we are all sinners and that the wages of sin is death but the good news is that the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord(Rom. 6:23).
The bad news is that people will wield weapons of condemnation against us but the good news is that God will silence every accusing voice (Isa. 54:17).
The bad news is that we get sick but the good news is that the prayer of faith will heal our diseases and, as a bonus, our sins will be forgiven (James 5:15).
The bad news is that weall suffer in this life but the good news is that suffering develops endurance which develops strength of character and maturity (Rom. 5:4).
The bad news is that the world is full of darkness and gloom but the good news is that Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12).
The bad news is that pressures of this world cause hearts to be heavy but the good news is that we can wear garments of praise which will banish every despondent thought (Isa. 61:3).
The bad news is that we can be surrounded by overwhelming temptation but God will provide a way of escape (1 Cor. 10:13).
So believe the good news, share the good news and be a blessing to others for those who hear good news from a distant land will receive it like a drink of cold water when they are dry and thirsty (Prov. 25:25).
